Our living room plans are moving along pretty well. We are not nearly as far as I’d like to be, but considering how busy we are it’s amazing we can get anything done at all!
A few weeks ago we started working on the north-side wall and hung our world pin map and muzzleloader.
The push pin map was an item I’ve wanted for a long time. While maybe a little overdone these days, I knew I wanted one that would match our decor, and not the typical blue-water-and-colored-countries kind you see so often. I searched around for a bit until I found Push Pin Travel Maps. They have so many different kinds and colors I had no problem finding exactly what I wanted. The frame is also included in the price! We got the earth tone world map and upgraded to a barnwood gray frame. We paid almost $150 including tax – shipping is always free!
The map also came with 100 pins – red, white & black. We decided to designate the colors. Red pins are the places that only I have gone, black are where Sam has gone, and white are the places we have gone together. It’s funny, I feel like I have been pretty fortunate in the number of places I have gone, but when you look at the world as a whole, it seems like we have hardly gone anywhere!
We love our pin map and would recommend Push Pin Travel Maps if you are looking for one! They also have US and state maps as well as DIY map kits if you would rather build one yourself. You can also buy additional pins if you need more (I hope we have that need someday!).
The muzzleloader is a gun Sam got from his grandfather. It was a kit gun (one you build yourself) and although Sam has had it for years, he has never shot it (mostly because he’s not sure if it will actually fire).
When we were planning how we wanted to decorate the house, Sam said he wanted to hang the gun and use it as a decoration. We decided on the living room and once we had bought the pin map we knew we wanted to pair them together.
Now that these two main decorations are up, we have to decide how to proceed with the rest of the wall. I’d like to display our travel photos around the map, but I also want to add other items, such as a wooden sign, canvas print, etc. I did some Pinterest searching and here are a couple of ideas I really like:
I hope to get the ball rolling in the next couple of weeks and start planning out exactly what we want. This project may take quite a bit of time, but I think it will be worth it.
Some other things that are getting done soon include new blinds in the living room and dining room (they were ordered last week), curtain for the front door, and curtains for the living room window. The rustic bookcase that Sam is making got postponed a bit because the wood was too wet at first, and then Sam worked a string of crazy shifts. Hopefully he will have some free time in the next week or so and get that baby finished!
